My New Favourite Show!

After recovering from a fair-to-middling episode of the Simpsons and a laugh-out-loud-maybe-twice episode of The Family Guy this past weekend, I was delighted that there is a new comedy show airing on Sunday nights. It's the Sunday night news on WUHF TV, the Rochester, NY affiliate for Fox. It's amazing. The weather report is gold.

For starters, in a half-hour show, they present to you the weather forecast a total of three times (or was that four?): first it's the initial forecast, then ten minutes later it's the recap in case you missed it, and then at the end of the show, it's the "what clothes should the kids wear to school" weather report, because hey, you might not have figured out yet that 18F means wear your winter coats, kiddies!

And then, there's vague comments like "later on, we'll be getting some snow." Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell from the context when "later on" is. Uhm...2 am this morning? Two days from now? Next week? Damn. When is that snow coming? What should the kids be wearing if it starts snowing?

But by far the best of all is the radar images. Mr. Weather stands in front of his trusty map of the eastern states and says awesome stuff like "we have some green coming in, and a few patches of yellow and orange as well over the Lakeville area". Read that to yourself again. Maybe out loud. That's right, he's telling you that there's green, yellow and orange on its way. Does ANYBODY know what that means? Is that temperature? Air pressure? Cloud coverage? Some kind of poisonous fog? And to what value does each colour correspond? Is green 32F? Is yellow 28" of Hg? So then orange must be 65ppm, right?



I'm disappointed that they didn't mention Canada during the forecast. What is southern Ontario going to do when that mauve front hits them?
